Dubai, the land of opulent hotels, glorious sunshine, amazing food and of course the glamours shopping. Its the most popular or the 7 Emirates. You may have read my top 10 things to do in Dubai. This is a visual diary of some of the un-posted pictures from the trip to Dubai. Everything is done on a grander scale in Dubai, from dancing fountains, Sky slops in malls, to 7 start hotels, man-made islands in the shape of world countries, worlds tallest building, which by the way Saudi Arabia is planning on snatching soon with plans of the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah. You cannot help but be impressed with the development in Dubai; a land the arose from the desert to this great big metropolis that houses the biggest and best of everything.
Although exploring the city is easy if you have a car, I wouldn't recommend hiring a car(even as cheap as they are), as driving in Dubai is fairly erratic and frankly dangerous in my opinion from the things I witnessed. So you can either stick to taxis or use the Metro system. This had about 50 stations the last time I was there but was fastly expanding to cover more of the city and outer limits of Dubai. It covers the airport too so if you have a long layover in Dubai you can explore the main sights and get back to the airport for you flight fairly easily.

Looks like quite the city that has popped out of the desert! How many times have you been? You've certainly seen and done a lot there. I think the whole idea of Dubai is very interesting and hope to make it there before too long.
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends worked in Dubai before moving back to Oman and another has just move to UAE but not in Dubai so its been easily accessible :)
DeleteIt looks incredible! You are so lucky. I would love to visit Dubai one day. I did have the opportunity to go to Bahrain before the uprising and that was pretty great.

DeleteI honestly tried to give Dubai a chance, but I couldn't gel with the place at all. It all just felt soulless to me. I'm glad you obviously enjoyed your time there though.
ReplyDeleteI know where you are coming from. If you read my first post on Dubai I had the same trouble and resulted to seeing it as a shopper's paradise because if you are after culture, you will not find it in Dubai. Sun, shopping and beaches that's it :)
DeleteIt definitely does depend on what people are after. Some people just want the luxury and shopping, not for me though I'm afraid. But it would be pretty boring if there was no variety and we all liked the same thing! ;D

For starters you get suites, each one with a private butler and arranged over 2 floors...so I am sure you can imagine that price tag such a hotel comes with.
DeleteI've stayed in Abu Dhabi a few times and taken day trips to Dubai. Although I don't normally like glitzy places I find Dubai fascinating, and I love the way you can find little pockets of local culture, like the souk area around the Creek.
ReplyDeleteNicely put, "pockets", which is a shame really. I love my time there but I wish they would have kept more of their local culture or in the new structures too rather than go all out with super modern buildings.

ReplyDeleteStunning post! Dubai really comes alive at night doesn't it. I'd love to visit sometime and see all these amazing sights for myself one day. My parents have been twice, hated it the first time and loved it the second time. I think it might be one of those cities where you either really love it or really hate it. Hoping I'll love it!

DeleteNice survey of the offerings - I've read and heard quite a bit about Dubai but quite honestly, it's not for me. I've been to Qatar a handful of times which is as soulless a place I ever want to visit. Dubai strikes me as being much the same, except even more opulent. I can see how some could find the attraction.
ReplyDeleteI havent been to Quarter yet but considering both countries are coming up from the desert they have both choosen the more modern route rather than sticking to more Arabic themed architecture and lifestyle. I can only imagine this has been done to serve visitors than anything else.

Not sure if I would go to Dubai or not, it looks fabulous, but I'm not sure if I would get the most out of it. Don't get me wrong I would love to see the Burj Khalifa and some of the other amazing buildings, but I don't know if the glitz and the money would be too much
ReplyDeleteYes its lavish, extravagant and just over the top in many places but that in itself is enough to appeal to even the fussiest of travellers. If you love food there is plenty, if you are in to architecture then there is plenty of that too. Culture? Not so much, but adventure Yes! Dune bashing in jeeps, boards or quad bikes. If you have a thing for heights like I do, imagine ski diving with a bird's eye view of the Palm Islands?! I don't know if Dubai is a love or hate type of place but there is certainly something for everyone.... I normally like to see things for myself so I can judge. Let me know if you visit and what you think of the place.
