I have a couple of posts on afternoon teas from London to Dubai to Hong Kong, so I think it's pretty clear that Bee is no stranger to cake accompanied by pinky-held tea cups. So when Thistle Hotels invited a couple of bloggers for afternoon tea atop a red vintage bus, my sweet tooth was ready and willing before I could even finish reading the invitation.
Sunday rolled on and as if by magic, London was beautifully bathed in glorious sunshine when giggling bloggers jumped on board the afternoon tea tour bus run by BB Bakery, some were so eager that they managed to get on the wrong BB Bakery tour bus(they were politely ushered off). We were also in the good company of a dashing Tom from Thistle Hotels who was on hand to answer our questions we had about the hotel, most of which are in easy access to many of London's tourist attractions. So if you are heading over to London for business or pleasure then you have plenty to choose from. I didn't even know they had that many Thistle Hotels dotted around the capital.
When we got on the bus our tables we laid out with the cutest little cakes and neatly cut sandwiches and if you have ever been to a bloggers event, then you will know that this is the part when cameras start flashing. All the while the sweet tooth is wondering why the hell you are taking pictures instead of throwing cakes down your throat two at a time. As ladies who lunch do, I obliged! With conversations going, the bus passed by some of Thistle's Top 10 London attractions like London Eye, Big Ben, Marble Arch, Trafalgar square, Notting Hill also passing through your bank manager's worst nightmare; Oxford Street and Nightsbridge where some of the city's best department stores and boutiques are. If you are new to the city it's a great way to get your bearings and skim through the sights and then decide which to concentrate on - all in the comfort of an uncrowded bus with tea and cake in hand too.
The Best Saved For Last
When we got on the bus I volunteered to connect my phone to the on-board speaker to add a little ambiance to the tour. Little did I know that I would be handsomely paid. I started off with a little jazz by way of Brazil's Belbel Gilbert before moving on to some more popular tunes. The popular tunes obviously had an effect on the girls because we soon realised that we had ourselves a Backstreet Boys tribute band on board as they started a duet. As soon as I recognised the tune, I found it on Spotify no sooner than I got it on the speakers all hell broke loose. And they say volunteer work doesn't pay! Don't worry I got you front row seats to Britain's Got Talent. The video is below! You can thank me later. If Thistle Hotels want to have entertainment to go with their Afternoon Teas, I am sure the girls wouldn't object to an encore. You can bet I will be there too with camera in one hand and cake in the other.
After getting a little sugar high with plenty of cake and bottomless teas, we were safely brought back to the London Eye where the tour started and ended. Albeit even gigglier than before as bloggers jumped off the bus for a group picture before heading separate ways. Below are some of the less bleary pictures from the tea on the bus tour.

ReplyDeleteThis is great. Sometimes when we live somewhere we take it for granted and seeing it from another angle is the best way to keep it fresh. Looks like a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteI am from the Caribbean island, Barbados, once a British colony. So we know about the tradition of afternoon tea, and it is nice, indeed. However, I have the chance to experience tea in the middle east and it is beyond beautiful. Particularly the presentation and simplicity.
